sr_desk_greyyellI am delighted to tell you that the school has been informed (25th April 2014) that our latest bid for funding for capital projects from the Education Funding Agency (EFA) via their Academies Capital Maintenance Fund 2014-15 (ACMF) has been successful.

The school has been trying for years to secure funding via a number of bidding rounds to different government funding streams to improve our inadequate accommodation, particularly for the most pressing need, to provide better accommodation for our large 6th form.

It is great news to hear we have finally been granted money to provide a new 6th form centre. This will not only help the 6th form but will relieve some of the pressure on rooms that can be used for all pupils in the school.

The total amount granted to us is approximately £2 million.

We bid for funding for two projects.

  1. Funding for re-roofing some of the flat roofs in the school
  2. A new build 6th form centre on the site of 1940s built Old Gym, which was to be demolished.

To provide a little more detail is the following extract from the EFA letter we have received. Clearly we have won this funding in the face of fierce competition from other Academies bids.

"Thank you for your application to Round 1 of the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund 2014 to 2015.

We received bids for 3,300 projects from 2,015 academies, totalling over £1,400 million; approaching four times the £394 million we have been able to allocate through this round.

As set out in the guidance, we assessed each application carefully against the weighted criteria – outputs of the project, value for money and deliverability – and following moderation, ranked projects, primarily according to the assessment score. The standard of bids has risen considerably in this latest round, making this a challenging decision as we have been unable to support many good quality projects. I am pleased to inform you that your academy has been awarded funding for the project(s) submitted."

We will be starting further planning needed to fulfil the projects later this week.

All in all, very welcome news.

Mr S. G. Riches

Principal
