gilwellboyFor over twenty years the last week of the summer term has been devoted to what we call "Activities and Enrichment Week"  During this week the normal timetable is set aside for five days and instead the school offer pupils a variety of challenges that they would not normally have a chance to experience. Watch out for this year's "Activities and Enrichment Week" !

wp13There is a range of distant residential educational visits that pupils can go on as well as activies at school and in the local area.

The week is always a great success and allows pupils to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

The week finishes with the annual sponsored charity school walk around Epping Forest.

You can view pictures of previous Activities Week below.

Some pupils took part in one of the five residential educational visits arranged for this week. The visits have been to Germany and Poland, Holland, Paris, Devon and an Outdoor Education in South Wales.  Pupils in Year 7 were also able to opt for a one day visit to Boulogne.   The experiences the pupils will have gained from these trips are immense and will certainly remain treasured memories for a long time.

Pupils back at school could go to Gilwell Park and Leaside to take part in canoeing, climbing and the 'leap of faith' to name just a few challenges on offer at the excellent Outdoor Pursuit centres. Go karting, Golf, Tennis, Orienteering and Mountain Biking in Epping Forest were also options for pupils.

On site, pupils could take part in Dynamic Groove (Street Dance), African drumming and dancing.

Pupils could visit the Tower of London and HMS Belfast or take part in Landscape Painting at Highams Park Lake,

P.E. staff organised sessions in a variety of team sports not often experienced by pupils in the normal curriculum.  Self-defence sessions were put on by experts from outside the school. The ICT department offered cartoon design and presentation.

The technology department provide pupils with the opportunity to design and construct a Bird Box, a CD/DVD rack, a jewellery box or a rocket.  Food Technology offer pupils the chance to make sweets, they also lead sessions in creating cards, felt jewellery and crazy chicks.  Pupils could also take part in a Ready Steady Cook competition, Curry in a Hurry and Pizza Mania. Other crafts included Exploding Memory Boxes.  The Art Department lead pupils in Batik and Waxing.  Salsa dancing also took place again.

These are tremendously successful weeks, the pupils and staff thoroughly enjoy and learn from their experiences.  We all look forward to Activities and Enrichment Week in the coming years.
