Sometimes parents and pupils receiving free school meals are concerned they will stand out. With our Scopay Cashless Catering system pupils receiving free school meals are not treated any diffferent to other pupils when paying for their meal at the till. Pupil X cannot tell if pupil Y is in receipt of free school meals. Not even the catering staff at the till are aware who is receiving free school meals

The school receives some extra funding based on the number of pupils eligible for Free School Meals. It is therefore beneficial to all our pupils if families who are eligible do in fact apply, even if they choose not to take up the offer.

You are entitled to claim free school meals if you are receiving any of the following

  • Income Support
  • Income based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • The Guarantee Credit element of State Pension Credit
  • Support from the National Asylum Support Service (NASS)
  • Support from the local authority Social Services Asylum Team (SSAT)
  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty¬ís Revenue and Customs) that is ¬£16,190 or less - this figure changes each year
  • Working tax Credit for four weeks after your employment finishes

All you need to do is contact Waltham Forest Revenues and Benefits Service, either by phone or online. Go to their page about Free School Meals on the Waltham Forest website for further details.
