All children entering the school will be placed in one of the four houses, Burnell, Forest, Gibson and Payling.

best school badge_edited-2In each year group there are eight tutor groups. Two tutor groups are in each house and their initials signify which house they belong to. So, for example in year 7, the eight tutor groups would be 7B1 and 7B2 (Burnell House), 7F1 and 7F2 (Forest House), 7G1 and 7G2 (Gibson House) and finally 7P1 and 7P2 (Payling House). Each House has its own colour as shown above.

Pupils in the different houses are identified by stripes in their school tie, shown below, that correspond to their house colour. Also pupils PE kit matches their house colour. It is hoped that, as a result of the House system, all children will be encouraged to identify with a particular House and become involved in a wide range of House activities and competitions.

Burnell House

is named after Sidney Burnell who was appointed Director of Education for the local area in 1920. The school was originally called Sidney Burnell school, then Burnell school until 1974.

The house tie has a gold coloured stripe.

netball4Sport is one of the subjects that will have a key role in a successful House system and will interlink closely with the extracurricular activities organised by various departments within the school.

There will also be many House Competitions from across the curriculum, some of these include: Football, Brainiacs, House dance, Wacky races, Table tennis, Netball, House singing, Bake-off, Spelling Bee & Christmas shoe box appeal.

We hope that your child will be encouraged to sample as many activities as possible and perhaps take advantage of one of several school trips offered each year.
