Mr Phil Grundy

Principal

I became Principal in January 2016 and was Deputy Principal at Highams Park from September 2011 after serving in similar senior posts in Enfield and Newham.

I hold a joint honours degree in English Literature and Sports Science from Liverpool University and a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) in Physical Education from Loughborough University.

I have worked in education for the last 18 years, initially as a PE teacher, then Head of Year before moving into Senior Leadership in schools.

Mr Nick Hyde

Deputy Principal (School Curriculum and Assessment)

I joined Highams Park school in January 2016 as Deputy Principal with responsibilities including school curriculum and assessment.

I have previously taught in schools in Havering, Thurrock and Northumberland in a variety of roles including Director of Science College, IB Coordinator and Assistant Headteacher.

I have a honors degree in Electronic Engineering from Southampton University and a Masters in Education. I enjoy cycling, skiing, computing and music, I'm married with two children of secondary school age. I have a passion for education and I strive to see Highams Park School help the pupils and students to fulfil their potential.

Mr Tom Capewell

Deputy Principal

I became Vice Principal at Highams Park School in January 2014, with my main role as Head of 6th Form. In 2016 I was promoted to Deputy Principal on the retirement of the previous post holder. Before this I worked for 8 years at a school in Bishop's Stortford, holding a number of roles including Assistant Headteacher.

I hold a degree in Modern Foreign Languages from the University of Durham and I teach French from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. European languages, culture, food and sport are my passions. My other main language is German, but I also speak a little bit of Italian and am keen to learn Spanish in the future.

Mr Nigel Armsby

Vice Principal (Head of 6th form)

I joined Highams Park School in April 2016 as Vice Principal, with my main role as Head of 6th Form. Before joining Highams Park I have previously worked at two other schools within Waltham Forest, with my role at both schools predominately focused on the 6th Form provision.

I hold a degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management from the University of Kent, and a Masters in Philosophy of Education from the Institute of Education. Having become the proud father of identical twin boys in November 2014 most of my time outside of school revolves around chasing after them, however when I can find time I like to watch Arsenal and play squash.

Mr John Davisson

Vice Principal (In charge of Key Stages 3 & 4)

I joined Highams Park School in 2000 and before coming here I worked in a I number of schools in a variety of roles, Teacher of Geography, Head of Geography, Head of Humanities Faculty and Assistant Headteacher. I hold an honours degree in Geography gained at the University of Salford.

I have lived the majority of my working life in East London and have spent many an anxious moment following my local team 'Leyton Orient'. My interest, apart from the O's, is reading,

Ms Cally Halkes

Vice Principal (Attendance, Special Needs, Support)

I joined Highams Park School as a senior member of staff in 1997. I have held a number of varied specific responsibilities during my time in the school. I have over 30 years experience working in schools in the UK and abroad.

My degree is in Biological Sciences gained at University of East Anglia. My post graduate qualifications include my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) from Warwick University and my National Professional Qualification for Headship obtained through Cambridge University.

I have taught Biology up to A-level, science, food technology and citizenship across the age and ability range.

My interests include holidays/travel, sport and of course, most importantly, my family.

Mr Barry Hughes

Vice Principal (Timetable & Day to Day Administration)

I began teaching at Highams Park School in September 1990 as Head of Mathematics. I joined the senior leadership of the school in 1997, first in charge of the Technology College programme and later in charge of timetabling.

I hold a BSc degree in Mathematics and I teach mathematics to examination classes in years 10 to 13 with applied mathematics being my specialist subject.

Dr Tim Morris

Vice Principal (Development)

I joined Highams Park School as a science teacher in 1994, following several years as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Chemistry Department at Southampton University. I have held a number of posts within the school including Head of House and Head of Year before joining the Senior Leadership Team in 1999.

I hold a BSc. honours degree and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Queen Mary College, University of London. I successfully completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship through the Institute of Education, London University.

I have taught science across the age and ability range, maths GCSE and chemistry up to A level.
