The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard  in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2)

For the current academic year, we have received £37,844 (2015-16 £38,000).
Following the review of last year’s expenditure and impact we will continue to focus the expenditure on the following this year:

  • Reading Recovery – 3 -5 sessions per week for students whose reading ages fall below 9 years 5 months
  • Reading Comprehension groups – for those students whose reading ages fall between 9.5 – 11 years
  • Dyslexia support, Spelling groups – withdrawal sessions mainly from Registration and or Citizenship
  • Touch Typing classes – during Registration time
  • Handwriting groups
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL) Support – withdrawal from Registration & Citizenship with the focus on Literacy
  • Individual reading support given in class
  • Language Enrichment Groups focusing on vocabulary building.   Overseen by the Speech & language Therapist. We buy into the service. The LSAs run the programme monitored by the Speech & Language therapist
  • Individual language support to students
  • In class support mainly focused on Literacy
  • An additional Year 7 nurture group

  • Maths Champions organised each morning for 4 mornings per week. The year 7 are divided into groups and attend on different days alternating with year 8
  • In class support for students in Maths – depending on the needs but in particular the set 5

Last year’s allocation made a difference to the attainment of the pupils who benefit from the funding by increasing reading ages, improving levels of literacy and numeracy and thereby giving the pupils greater access to the whole school curriculum
