Dear Parents

Firstly, to wish you all well, as you are all aware the COVID pandemic continues to impact upon all of our lives and I am very conscious in writing to as parents that many of you may well have experienced some significant challenges and interruption to your lives as a result of the virus.

As you are aware you child in either Year 8 or Year 10 continues to be asked to arrive and depart via the exit in Beverley Road.  It is perhaps helpful to provide a little context behind the decision to maintain the arrangements brought in during COVID.  As you may be aware we have seven-Year Groups being taught at the school, with 1600 students in total.  To try and minimise the overall congestion and disruption to the whole community we ask different Year Groups to enter and exit via three different points.  Two of these are located on Handsworth Avenue for Years, 7,9, 11, 12 and 13 whilst Years 8 and 10 use the Beverley Road gate.

Having reviewed the amended arrangements during COVID we have decided to continue to use the Beverley Road entrance for both arrival and departure for your child’s Year Group.  Inevitably this generates additional footfall and traffic along a dead-end road, and some disruption for a short period of time to the residents.  Please could I ask if you are dropping off or collecting students in a car, please to do so without driving into Beverley Road, thus keeping congestion to a minimum.

Finally, please could you reiterate to your child that they act as ambassadors of Highams Park School, as they travel to and from school.  Being aware of their responsibilities to the community as they travel to and from school and those they share the pavement with, goes a long way.

Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Yours faithfully
