Firefly01Firefly is the school’s online learning resource. This page gives parents a quick overview to allow you to best support your son or daughter’s use of Firefly.

How do parents access Firefly?

All parents have their own individual logins to Firefly, allowing you to see info on your child or children.  All parents were sent initial invitation emails in September 2018. Parents of new Year 7s will be sent this invitation at the start of each academic year.

Please see the Firefly Parent Access page for more details

How do students log in?

Login is via Office365 using the student’s school email address.

  • Username: e.g. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Password: the same password they use to log in to the school network

Reminders of these details are in the front of the school planner, on the login page itself and on the school website, where you will also find this document along with any updates.

Is it compulsory for students to use Firefly?

Yes. All homework is set on the site as Firefly Tasks, whether it is book work, something that takes advantage of rich online content or even a task to be submitted on Firefly itself. As such, it is essential that students are using Firefly daily. School PCs are available for students to use before school, break, lunchtime and after school if access is limited outside school. Please note students are expected to write H/W in planners as previously.

What devices can Firefly be used on?

Firefly is a responsive website which will adapt to the device being used. As such it can be used on all devices including PCs, Macs, tablets and phones. The only requirement is an up to date browser such as the latest version of Google Chrome.

Is there a Firefly app?

FireflyApp01Yes there is, one for Apple devices and one for Android devices. The Firefly for Students app allows students to use their phones outside school to check their timetable and easily keep track of their tasks, feedback, messages and bookmarks as well as hand in work. However, it does not replace the mobile responsive website itself. To set up the app, the school code is HIGHAMS.

What will I find on Firefly?

The best way to find out is to have an explore of the site itself. Each subject runs Firefly pages for all the courses taught at KS3, GCSE, A level or equivalent. Content includes lesson slides, worksheets, summary sheets, videos, latest TV programmes, animations and links to other rich online content. Whilst much of this will be used in class or as part of a homework task, we encourage students to use Firefly to personalise their own learning to provide support or extend their learning as appropriate.

What should students do if they have login / access issues?

We are aware that there will be occasional issues, but “my Firefly doesn’t work” is not excuse for incomplete work. If there are problems, students MUST do at least one of the following:

  • Go to ICT support, where IT technician James Hooper will be able to help them.
  • Ask their teacher or tutor to contact James Hooper by email.
  • Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with screenshots of any error messages.
  • Go to a Digital Leader session Tuesday lunchtime in M5 or Wednesday lunchtime in E4.

What if they cannot find what they are looking for?

The search function top right of every page on Firefly is excellent. Without hitting return it will suggest pages containing search terms as you type. Hit return and it will also give any documents containing your search term. Pages and content will often be attached to Firefly Tasks, taking students straight to the content they need. Pages may also be recommended to students, appearing on the top right of their Dashboard. Students can also bookmark their own choice of pages for easy access.

How can I help my child manage their Firefly tasks?

In the same way as with paper planners, some students are better than others at managing their task lists. Please encourage them to “Mark As Done” when they have completed a task. After every half term, tasks more than a month old will be removed from students’ task lists automatically.

How can students get involved?

Much of what you see on Firefly has been created by our Student Digital Leaders, who work in teams with responsibility for a number of subjects. Please encourage your son or daughter to apply by searching “Digital Leaders” on Firefly, if you think they would enjoy or benefit from this role. The Digital Leaders work closely with Mr Barker, the IT support team and subject teachers to set up, develop and improve Firefly and wider eLearning resources, such as our new Highams Park YouTube channels.

How can I make suggestions for improvement?

With Firefly such a collaborative effort between staff and students we welcome all suggestions. For useful websites or apps, please complete the Suggest your own resource form on Firefly. There are also subject specific forms on each subject page. More general ideas and issues (not specific to a student login) can be raised using the Firefly suggestions and issues form.

How can I get more information?

The Firefly Help Centre is accessible from the “?” bottom left of every Firefly page. For Highams Park specific queries please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We hope this information will help you support your son or daughter using Firefly and ensure they get the best possible benefit from the site.
