Dear Prospective Highams Park Parent

COVID-19 – Highams Park School Open Evening

Normally at this time of year parents of Year 6, and potentially some Year 5 students would be busy organising their diaries in order to plan which schools they wished to visit, to help inform your decision about which school to apply for, ready for next year.

Sadly, the impact of the COVID virus is such that school Open Evenings will have to be organised in a very different way this year.  At Highams Park School, we hope that the following opportunities will still enable you as parents, and your children as students to make an informed decision as to whether Highams Park School will become your school in September 2021.

  • From Monday, 12th October 2020 there will be a dedicated section of the website available for you to view all manner of interviews and information from a range of staff and students. We have tried as far as possible, to provide you with bite size sections of information, so you can select the parts you are most interested in.
  • Please feel free to collect from our Reception a copy of the prospectus. In order to avoid peak times, we would request that you only call in between 9.00am and 3.00pm from the Main Reception.

If you would like to view the school and meet me, there are a series of socially distanced talks followed by a tour around the school by some members of my leadership team and I.  Places on each tour will be limited, so please book these by using the online system . These tours will take place from the afternoon of Thursday, 15th October 2020 and run through until Saturday, 17th October 2020 inclusive.

I hope that each of the opportunities above will enable you to get a flavour of the school.  I appreciate that selecting a secondary school for your child is a significant decision and I share your disappointment that we will not be able to welcome you into the school in the normal manner.

With over a third of our students admitted each year being younger siblings of existing students, could I ask parents in this position to consider whether it is essential to tour the school.  You will not be precluded from booking a space on one of the tours, as I appreciate that the process is as much for the benefit of your child, as it is yourself.  However, we would wish to ensure that all those who are not familiar with the school have opportunity to visit, if they wish to do so.

I hope you enjoy the different video clips, and I look forward to meeting those of you who attend the socially distanced tours.

Yours faithfully

Phil Grundy

Principal
