Highams Park Year 13 students achieve outstanding results

Highams Park School is incredibly proud of the outstanding progress and achievements of our Year 13 students in their A level and BTEC results. This cohort of students entered into this year’s examinations with no experience of having sat GCSEs two years ago due to the pandemic, and achieved outcomes which continue to put Highams Park Sixth Form as having results above the national average across the board. These results included 49% of grades awarded being A*-B for A levels, and a fantastic 83% of results being at Distinction or above for BTEC qualifications, showcasing the consistency of excellent results achieved by students at Highams Park School. These have enabled over 82% of students to obtain a place at their first-choice universities, which is above the national average.

The A level results highlighted a variety of pleasing outcomes for Highams Park students. Three of our Year 13 students achieved a clean sweep of A* grades across the board. Digby Gough-Boyack, one of the school’s Senior Prefects, achieved three A* grades in Biology, English Literature and Psychology which have enabled him to undertake study of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Oxford. This is alongside Saim Rana, who had surgery during his A level examinations, and achieved  an A* in Biology, Chemistry and Maths to take up the offer of studying Medicine at Queen Mary University in London. In addition, Maggie McKeon achieved 3A*s in Maths, Further Mathematics and Physics. She is going to study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bristol. A grand total of 68 A* or A grades were received by students across the different subject areas. These included for Connor Dunne, who is off to read Medicine at the University of Sheffield, Stanley Morris who is going to study French at University of Oxford and Tia Melville who is heading to study Multimedia Journalism. This highlights the variety of different routes that students at Highams Park School are taking with their excellent results.

As ever, it is not just with respect to A level grades and university entry that Highams Park students have achieved great success. Our BTEC results are outstanding again this year, with 21 grades including at least one Distinction*, and every single student achieving at least a merit in their qualifications. Oliver Williams achieved D*D* in BTEC Sport, alongside two A level qualifications with an A*, to move onto Sport and Exercise Medicine at Univeristy, and Nadia Chummun who gained D*D* in Health and Social Care alongside a B in Sociology to read Physiotheraphy. This is alongside Georgia Michaelides who gained a D*D* in BTEC Sport and an A in Media Studies to take up a place at Queen Mary University to study Business Management with a Year in Industry. These results exemplify the diversity of qualifications achieved by the students at Highams Park Sixth Form, and the vast array of destination pathways that our students have chosen to undertake as a result of our extensive careers support and guidance programme.

Nigel Armsby, Principal of Highams Park School, is extremely pleased with the results achieved by Year 13 students and said “As a school we are absolutely delighted and incredibly proud of our Year 13 students. They were a fantastic cohort, who thoroughly deserved all that they have achieved in their A level and Level 3 BTEC qualifications. The vast majority of students have got into their first choice university, setting them up for the next stage of their life which I wish them all the best with”.

Liam McDonnell, Assistant Principal- Head of Sixth Form, added “Our Year 13 students have shown continued dedication and drive to succeed in their studies. This has been rewarded with outstanding results, which continue to be above the national average for progress. The students should be commended for the resilience and positive attitude with which they undertook their examinations. We are also very pleased that a large number of students are also moving onto high quality apprenticeships, including in the fields of Fashion and Business Administration. Our students have been a credit to the Sixth Form and the school, and go into the world equipped with outstanding skills and attributes to make a positive impact for the future”.
