Progress 02On Friday 15th February 2019 we would like to welcome parents to our Progress Day at the school.

Every student will have a ten-minute interview with his/her form tutor where his/her progress will be reviewed based on information collected prior to the meeting.

All students must attend the interview and we would hope parent(s) attend as well.  We feel that the presence of parent(s) at these meetings will help parents to support their son/daughter’s progress.

Normal lessons are cancelled for the day and your son/daughter should wear school uniform as usual with the exception of Year 10 students, who should wear smart clothes to attend the meeting (please see below as to why they do not wear school uniform this year).  I do hope you will be able to join your son/daughter at the Progress Day and hopefully you will have already begun to discuss with your son/daughter how they are progressing in their lessons and what opportunities offered at Highams Park School they have taken up.  If you cannot attend, may I emphasise that it is compulsory for students.

Mock Interviews for Year 10

Additionally, this year, exclusively for Year 10 students, we are running ‘Mock Interviews’ in school.  This mock interview process has been created with a view to giving our students the opportunity of interview experience in preparation for 6th form, college or apprenticeship applications next year and as valuable practice for any future jobs that they apply for.

The arranged interview is compulsory for every Year 10 student and it will take place in the new 6th form building.  Parents do not need to attend the Mock Interview but if they wish to wait for their child, the canteen will be open and serving hot and cold drinks.

The interview times have been allocated per form group, each form group will go into the interview session at the same time so it’s very important that the students arrive on time.  Please see the table below for the set times.

Year 10 students are required to wear ‘smart’ clothes for the interview (and Progress Day), not school uniform.  They do not have to wear a suit but should dress to impress their interviewer for example, no jeans, trainers, hoodies or skimpy clothing.

The students will be prepared for the interview during their Citizenship lessons where they will also be completing an application form for a ‘job’ and considering the questions that may be asked of them.  Students will receive feedback on the day as to how the interview went and any areas for improvement, they will also receive a copy of this shortly after the event which they can then keep as a guide.

Careers Fair – Thursday 28th February 2019

Careers01We are also pleased to announce that we will be holding our annual ‘Careers Fair’ on Thursday 28th February from 10:00 – 16:30.  The Fair will be open to all students during the school day and slots will be allocated to year groups nearer the time.  Parents are welcome to attend between 15:30 and 16:30.

We have invited many organisations who will be available to talk about various options available including apprenticeships.  The aim of this event is to help our students make an informed choice on routes into their chosen career path in the not too distant future.

Should you wish to know any more about the interview please contact Mr Jolly, Head of Year, or Mrs Adolphus, Co-ordinator for Careers.
