2016 a level 06

exmresultsHighams Park 6th Form students have excelled again this year in their A levels and Btec National qualifications.

Within our Year 13 A-level cohort there were 21 A* grades, 72% of the grades awarded were at C or above and the students narrowly missed the school’s record pass rate of 99.3%.

Students taking Btec National qualifications achieved an amazing 100% pass rate.

Year 13 individual successes

Particular praise goes to our three highest achievers.  Menghan Liu achieved a stunning 3 A* and 2 A grades and moves on to study Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. Leanne Smith and Iona Coleman both gained A*A*A. Leanne leaves Highams Park to read Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oxford, while Iona fulfils a life-long ambition to study Veterinary Medicine.

A further 6 students gained A*AA in their A2 levels. Tom Farnell (Chemistry) and Fjori Shabani (Mathematics) are both off to the University of Bristol, Ope Alase is embarking on a Computer Science course at Warwick and Antoni Loizidou is going to Durham to study Biological Sciences. Maddie Goldsworthy departs for the University of Sussex to read English and Nancy Johnson-Kelly will do a History degree at Exeter.

Other A level performances of note are A*AB for Megan Joseph, Amy Borchard, Muhammed Bokhari, Ian Dugdale and Hinesh Tailor and A*BB for Jack Tait and Hafsah HussainJack is going to Princeton on a prestigious scholarship and Hafsah will read Medicine at Kings College London. Adam Miller and Megan Sturgeon both achieved AAA. Adam will study Architecture and Megan will study Chemistry with Forensic Investigation, having already completed work experience with the Metropolitan Police.

This summer also saw more huge success for our BTEC students. Eleven students achieved D*D* in their Business Diploma and thirteen of our young people leave industry-ready having passed their ICT CISCO course, with ten of them gaining D*D*. One of these students was Richard Sadan who is about to embark upon an apprenticeship with BT. Our top performer was Dillon Richards who achieved D*D*D* in our ICT Extended Diploma and had already started his apprenticeship before the school year was out! All in all a staggering 84% of our BTEC entries were awarded Distinction or above.

For University entrance a BTEC National Distinction Starred grade is counted as equivalent to an A* grade at A-level, a Distinction grade is counted as equivalent to an A-level A grade, a Merit grade is counted as equivalent to an A-level C grade and a Pass grade is counted as equivalent to an A-level E grade.

 Year 12 exam results

We should not forget the performance of our Year 12 cohort, many of whom have set themselves up superbly to gain the top grades next year:

  • 4 A grades in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science for Jack Franklin.
  • William Azubuike, Leo Cordery-Smith, Scarlett Fox, Roisin Furlong, Rajan Pal and Sam Sheppard all have 3 A grades to their name.

These students will be aiming for the very best A2 grades as they embark on their Year 13 courses in September.
