Exceptional Leave Form

Tell the school the result of a Covid Lateral Flow Test or Covid PCR using this form

https://testregister.co.uk/login

We have been reviewing how you tell us if your child is absent from or late to school and how we manage the 100s of phone calls, messages and emails to various staff, we receive each day. The forms, which are a trial, will also be available on Firefly and the School Website.

You will be redirected to the online form if you ring/email the school. Messages will not be taken except in truly exceptional circumstances, so please do not ask staff to take them.

Also, to remind parents:

1.       Students need to be in their tutor room by 8.35am so should be on school premises by 8.30am.

2.       Parents offer an explanation for any absence or lateness but only the school authorises an absence or lateness, based on the explanation offered and bearing in mind previous absence/lateness and the reason offered for each.

3.       Sufficient travelling time has to be left to allow for cancelled/full buses and ‘traffic’. Unless a truly exceptional circumstance happens ‘traffic’ does not cancel a late detention.

4.       Medical appointment i.e. doctors, orthodontists, dentists should be made out of school hours as far as is possible. Most medical appointments are relatively short so students should come into school before and after appointments. Rarely is a whole day off needed. Evidence of the appointment, including the time, in the form of a headed letter/ practice appointment card will be needed before an appointment will be authorised

5.       Requests for Exceptional Leave during term time need to be made in writing, in advance, before the purchase of any tickets/arrangements are made. Please be aware any request for exceptional leave of absence will require appropriate evidence for the reason cited ie family member’s ill health / funeral / weddings /medical appointment abroad etc. Sadly, this is necessary because some parents have chosen to be ‘economical with the truth’ about extended travel/illness either side of school holidays, hence the need for evidence. Please also remember to allow for quarantine time during the school holidays if you are going to a ‘red list country’ ie a red list country should not be visited in a 2-week school holiday as the quarantine cannot be completed before return to school is required.

6.       If your child has any of the 3 main covid symptoms, even if they are only mild, please get a Covid PCR test done – not a home lateral flow test. Register the test result as above and someone from school will then contact you by phone or email. Your child will receive remote learning whilst off school if positive for Covid or awaiting the results of a PCR test if s/he has symptoms.
