Dear ParentsAs we commence the final half term of this academic year, I wanted to write and share some updates on different aspects of school life with you. I hope that all students, and parents are able to return to work and school having enjoyed some time together over the historic bank holiday that we have just celebrated.Firstly, words of encouragement and support for our students in Years 11, 12 and 13 as they head into the final weeks of GCSE, BTEC and A Level examinations. For the first time in three years, students this summer have the opportunity to sit real examinations to test their knowledge in a formal exam setting. To date every student has demonstrated excellent focus and commitment during what can be a challenging process. Well done and keep going.All other Year Groups will also be sitting internal end of year tests as well, providing them with the opportunity to hone the skills and organisation required to revise, prepare for and then deliver successfully within the confines of an examination. Clearly this is an important part of achieving the success for which we collectively strive.Behind the scenes there has been considerable work taking place with the Department for Education as part of the School Rebuilding Programme. As you will be aware Highams Park School is a large site which contains numerous different teaching blocks constructed and redeveloped over time. I am delighted to be able to confirm that plans are now well advanced, and will be shortly submitted for approval to upgrade the oldest areas of our estate, bringing them up to the same standard as the newest areas of the school such as the 6th Form and P block. More information will follow in due course once the plans are formally approved, at present we anticipate that the first phase of building will commence upon the completion of the GCSE and A Level Examinations next summer, i.e. July 2023.Yours faithfullyPhil Grundy
