Dear Parents

 KEY MESSAGES
  • School will finish at 1.25pm  this Friday 1st April 2022, and commence again at 8.30am on Tuesday 19th April 2022.
  •  Use the Firefly link to view more details of some of the school events in the last six weeks.
  •  Well done to all Year 11 and 6th Form students on the completion of their Mock Examinations.
  •   Wonderful to see the return of Music, Dance, Drama and Sporting Performances.
  •  Consider whether you would be able to link with us to support the current crisis in Ukraine.

As we approach the final few days of term, I wanted to write to you to share some key points.  Our term will end this Friday, 1st April 2022 with students being released from school at the end of Period 4, and be able to leave school at 1.25pm.  Food will be available for all students, at break time but also at the start of the lunchtime as students then head home for the Easter holiday. Can I encourage you to view some of the highlights of the last six weeks via your firefly account, https://highamspark.fireflycloud.net/news.  I must admit particular highlights for me in recent weeks have been to be able to see students and parents return to collective performances, where students have been able to showcase their teamwork and collaboration. Well done to all those involved in the recent Dance Showcase, Drama Performance and Football Final.  As I write this I look forward to seeing some of our musicians perform at our Spring Concert on Thursday evening, 31st March 2022.  From the snippets that I have seen in our Year Group celebration assemblies at the start of this week we are in for a treat.  There are only a handful of tickets left on sale for this event, please see the attachment for details of how to purchase them if you would like to join us. Can I also encourage our 6th Form and Year 11 students particularly as they both complete their final mock examinations.  The process of preparing for the upcoming final GCSE, BTEC and A Level exams has been particularly taxing this year as students and staff have had to do so in the knowledge that these exams have not taken place for the last two years. Within our school there are many cultures represented, and it was genuinely a wonderful experience to witness students coming to school in the colours or traditional clothing of the countries and cultures that are particularly precious to them.  The first Highams Park Cultural Day was an absolute success, and will certainly be making an annual appearance going forward. We have a wonderful mixture of cultures, faiths, beliefs and traditions represented within our school and so we shall inevitably all celebrate or mark Easter in different ways.  However, may I encourage everyone to reflect on the tragedy of events currently taking place in Ukraine and consider how each of us can help to advance unity and respect for the differences that exist in our communities rather than these being a source of conflict.  There is a link on the Firefly news page of an initiative, that we as a school are supporting to help in some small way if you would like to do so. I wish you all a peaceful Easter break and look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Tuesday 19th April 2022 for a prompt start at 8.30am. Have a good break, I look forward to seeing your children on return. Yours faithfully Phil Grundy
